and Asi
Tallinn
2007. Compiled by Karen Jagodin, edited by Karin Hallas-Murula, designed by
Tiit Jürna. Text in Estonian, English summary.
The creative
period of the interior architects Väino Tamm and Vello Asi covers almost
three decades, the most active of which were the 1960s. They designed the
interiors for several great public buildings playing an important role in
popularising the modernist architectual language. up to today, there have
been no retrospective exhibitions of Tamm and Asi's work but their designs
have been displayed at the Soviet architecture and design exhibitions. The
objective of this catalogue was to present as many photos of their completed
works as possible, since almost is left of the original design solutions of
their interiors.

Greater Tallinn: Eliel Saarinen's
Greater-Tallinn, 1913
Tallinn,
2005. Texts by Karin Hallas-Murula, design by Tiit Jürna. Text in Estonian,
Finnish and English, 199 pages, ill., 31x40.
Eliel
Saarinen, winner of the 1913 Tallinn international planning competition,
offered the city a grand vision for the coming 25 years and in longer
perspective until the year 2000. This daring project is still a remarkable
landmark in the history of Tallinn, and the town planners have referred to it
later as well. Today Tallinn strives to become a metropolis and - as if
afraid to be left behind - more and higher houses are built. In that context,
analysing Eliel Saarinen's project that was born in the conditions of the
Tsarist empire, but was able to see far ahead into the future, continues to
be topical.

History Reflected in Architecture
Catalogue of
the exhibition. Tallinn, 2005. Texts by Karin Hallas-Murula, Urmas Oja, Kristel
Valk, design by Liina Siib.
Parallel
text in Estonian and English. 76 pages., ill.
This
publication offers a panoramic cross-section of the history of Estonian
architecture through the centuries. Aesthetic quality as well as the
expression of an aspect characteristic of and essential to its era were
determinative in the selection of buildings for the exhibition. Among the
selected objects are fortifications and sacred buildings, public bulidings
fron theatres to spots structures, dwellings from the rehetare
(barn-dwelling) to functionalist villas and contemporary social housing
projects that all, one way or another, reflect changes in centuries, styles,
rulers and views of the world. A brief overview of the events and processes
that have influenced Estonian history introduces each era and commentaries
are added to each architectural object.
