Art collection

The art collection contains urban and rural landscapes made by the older generation of architects: Paul Mielberg, Ernst Kühnert, Karl Burman, and others.

Architectural drawings done by architects of the “Tallinn School” – Leonhard Lapin, Toomas Rein, Veljo Kaasik, Avo-Himm Looveer, Jaan Ollik, Tiit Kaljund, Vilen Künnap, and Ignar Fjuk – make up the more complete collection. The museum’s collection also includes a number of “architectonics”: spatial compositions that lie somewhere between models and sculptures, which were a very popular medium during the 1970s–1980s. Leonhard Lapin’s “International Hanseatic League Centre on Viru Square in Tallinn” (1992), which is on display in the permanent exhibit, was the winning entry in a competition organised by the Museum of Estonian Architecture to find conceptual projects for a new Tallinn City Hall.
