14 projects were submitted to the architecture competition for the new main building of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences. The jury gave the first prize for the best design entitled Phalanx to architecture bureau Arhitekt11 Ltd.

“The main value of the new building is that it is now possible to get everything necessary for a modern curriculum in a much smaller area,” said the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences’ provost Katri Raik. “The new building features spaces that were not available in the old one – gyms, auditoriums for virtual exercises and simulations, laboratories, a canteen etc. The new building also enables better cooperation between various disciplines in the future.”

The contemporary and energy efficient building will endeavour to accommodate most of the curricula. The main building will be situated in Kase 61, Tallinn. The hazardous structures presently situated on the lot will be demolished.

The second prize was given to architecture bureau KAVAKAVA Ltd. for their design Valley, the third prize for a design called Camouflage went to Peeter Pere Architects Ltd. A special mention was given to designs Magnum and Sign, the authors of which were Doomino Architects Ltd. and Salto AB Ltd. respectively.
